H.S. Football: Olmsted Falls' rushing attack too much for Midview

EATON TWP. — Midview fought hard on senior night, but repeated first-half turnovers and an inability to slow Olmsted Falls' varied rushing attack proved too much, as the Middies fell 42-7 to the Bulldogs on Friday.On Midview's first drive of the game, Shay Williams and the offense proved able to move the ball, but the drive sputtered at midfield and back-to-back incompletions led to a turnover on downs in its own territory.The Bulldogs took advantage, running the ball down the throat of the Midview defense and capping their opening drive with a 5-yard touchdown run by senior Owen Singleton, his first of three scores.That pattern was closely repeated for the rest of the first half, as the Middies would punt or throw an interception to end their next four drives."Football is a game about winning the turnover margin, and we definitely lost the turnover margin," Midview coach Jack Armstrong said. "As always, we are going to take away the positives and we are going to fix the negatives."One interception was particularly back-breaking, as Bulldogs defensive back Logan Connelly returned an errant Williams pass 84 yards for a touchdown.Already down four scores, Armstrong turned to junior wide receiver and backup quarterback Brennen Newton to run a Wildcat offense. The move appeared to work, until Newton was picked off at the 5 to end the drive.Olmsted Falls marched the ball 95 yards down the field and scored as time expired to make the score 35-0 at halftime.Olmsted Falls rested almost all of its starters during the second half, as Midview kept fighting to get its seniors into the end zone in their last home game.That moment finally came with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter, when senior running back Marcus McMahon took the ball up the middle and found daylight, running 62 yards for a touchdown to get Midview on the board."Tonight, it's all about the seniors, and this is a great senior class," Armstrong said. "They were sophomores when I became coach, and they have bought into the vision of rebuilding the M. The record might not reflect it, but they are making a huge difference in the rebuild of Midview. We are the smallest school in the conference by quite a bit.
