High school volleyball roundup: Mande Luttner gets milestone win witih Brunswick

CHESTER TWP. — The first "Mande Milestone" of the volleyball season was a very big one. So was the second.Brunswick coach Mande Luttner became the second coach in Medina County history with 300 career wins, reaching the mark Saturday when the Blue Devils beat Holy Name 25-23, 13-25, 25-19 at the Lancer Invitational.The triumph occurred in Luttner's 500th career match, which also has only been accomplished by one other local coach. Highland legend Jill Bouton compiled a 381-257 record over 29 years."I always have these awesome kids and the best (coaching) staff that I work with that it makes it impossible to leave," said Luttner, who is in her 21st season. "I honestly feel like it just means you've hung around for a long time, which I guess isn't that common."Putting the win totals of Bouton and Luttner in perspective, Jill Quayle Klingbeil of Highland and Wadsworth is in third place with 190.Senior Emerson Sheets ignited the three-set victory over the Green Wave with 24 assists, 12 digs, four kills and three aces, while sophomore outside hitter Kacie Belz ripped a match-best 10 kills. Senior libero Ashlie Lieb added 10 digs and four aces.The Blue Devils played three contests at the seven-team event, losing to Kenston 25-22, 25-20 and Huron 25-17, 25-21 before winning their finale.Sheets finished the day with 48 assists, 22 digs and 12 kills, Belz had 20 kills and Lieb made 39 digs. Addison Compton added 14 kills and four blocks, while fellow outside hitter Madison Miller had nine kills and eight rejections.In other matches:Black River 25-25-25, Mapleton 16-18-23SULLIVAN TWP. — Senior setter Morgan Kubitz posted 37 assists and 16 digs as the Pirates (8-2) rolled on with a non-league sweep of the Mounties (2-7). Sophomore outside hitter Jenevieve Dieter had a match-high 11 kills and four aces, senior libero Remington Dieter made 20 digs and junior outside hitter Sydney Czarny had 10 kills in the 183rd career win for coach Courtney Dieter.Medina Christian 25-18-25-25, Euclid 15-25-15-13EUCLID — Emma Finan fired a career-high 12 aces with five kills and Ava Sems had six kills for the Knights (6-2) in non-league play against the Panthers (0-5).
